Israel Galván

Returning to the Grand Théâtre, Israel Galván continues to make a mark with his passion for merging flamenco and contemporary dance. In La Fiesta , Galván acknowledges that no one exists in isolation. Dancers' movements may vary, but ultimately they come together to create a whole performance; they exist alone, but together there are endless possibilities. The same treatment is given to the fiesta of Spanish culture, the understanding that it is the fusion of individual elements.

Music, rhythm, dance, food and laughter all ultimately culminate in creating the fiesta. Delving further, Israel Galván focuses attention on the hidden gestures that would otherwise be lost: someone sitting with exhaustion, the turn of a head as they start to pay attention, eyelids batting, aimless chatter, or fingers snapping to the rhythm. All of these individual movements happen away from the main scene, yet it is this energy that flows together to create the fiesta.

Galván has often expressed the belief that the souls of the past dance with him as he explores flamenco and the realms of contemporary dance. He easily discovers the synergies because he feels no boundaries, for him flamenco is not a competition or a brand that divides people; Flamenco is an attitude, it is essentially a way of being.
